The flight
Six whiskies, malt to grain to fifty years
We open on the three core Fujis, one grain, one blend, one malt, so you can taste what the distillery does with each. Then the Masterpiece, and the two bottlings made for Fuji Gotemba's 50th anniversary.
A guided tasting, with canapés from the Chin Chin kitchen all night.
What is a single blend?
Most blended whisky brings malt and grain together from different distilleries. A single blend is made entirely at one. Same water, same team, malt and grain both distilled and matured on site.
Very few distilleries anywhere can do it, because very few make both. Fuji Gotemba has since 1973, and three of the six pours on the night are single blends.

The distillery
Fuji Gotemba, at the foot of the mountain
Fuji Gotemba began distilling in 1973 in the foothills of Mount Fuji, around 620 metres above sea level. Snowmelt from the mountain filters through volcanic rock for decades before it reaches the distillery, and that soft, cool water runs through every Fuji whisky.
The stills
Three whisky traditions under one roof
Gotemba was built drawing on Scotch, American and Canadian whisky making at once. Pot stills sit alongside column stills, and different grains are run through each, so the distillery has a full palette of malt and grain styles to work with.
It is why Fuji single grain tastes nothing like the grain you know, and why a single blend is possible at all.
The blender
Jota Tanaka and the art of balance
Master Blender Jota Tanaka brings the distillery's malts and grains together, and his idea of Fuji is a pure, refined style built on harmony rather than power.
The 50th Anniversary releases are his tribute to five decades at Gotemba, drawing on whiskies from across the distillery's history.
Six whiskies, one mountain, and a very good night in Surry Hills.
