The whisky
Mortlach is built differently. Its partial triple distillation and worm tub condensers give it a meaty, muscular weight that no other Speyside malt carries, which is why it earned the name. This is one Pedro Ximénez hogshead of it, twelve years old, bottled undiluted by Wormtub, so you set the strength yourself.
Wormtub bottle single casks only from distilleries that still condense their spirit through worm tubs, the old copper coils that leave a heavier, more characterful new make. The sherry cask adds the dark fruit; Mortlach brings the muscle.
Tasting notes
