Rock Hill Farms

Rock Hill Farms Single Barrel Bourbon 750ml

$220.00

The Buffalo Trace unicorn that hides in plain sight. One hundred proof, one barrel at a time.

Four bourbons come off Buffalo Trace's high rye mash bill. Three of them you already know by name. Rock Hill Farms is the fourth, and it is the one that almost never makes it onto an Australian shelf.

The name belongs to a stretch of farmland running along the Kentucky River beside the distillery. The bottle has barely changed in decades, a squat glass decanter carrying a gold horse standing in its paddock, and it is as recognisable across a back bar as anything Buffalo Trace puts out. Every one of them is filled from a single barrel and nothing else, then bottled at a full hundred proof.

The detail

Volume 750ml
ABV 50% (100 proof)
Origin Frankfort, Kentucky, USA
Style Kentucky Straight Single Barrel Bourbon
Mash bill Buffalo Trace Mash Bill #2, high rye
Age No age statement
Release Allocated, ongoing single barrel release

What it delivers

Cherry and dark berries on the nose, behind them vanilla, cinnamon and seasoned oak
Caramel, honey, dark fruit, cocoa and baking spice across the palate, with real weight behind it at 50%
A long, warming finish of oak spice and lingering sweetness
Genuine barrel to barrel variation, so no two bottlings taste quite the same

Why it matters

Bottled higher than both Blanton's Original and Elmer T. Lee, the two expressions it shares a mash bill with
Owned by Age International and made at Buffalo Trace, an ownership quirk that keeps it off the distillery's own brand page and out of most retail
Strictly allocated in Australia and rarely seen on a shelf
A decanter worth keeping, holding a whiskey far too good to leave unopened

Same farmland, same river, same recipe behind the bottles everyone chases. This is the one they forget to look for.
