This is Couvreur with a bit more weight.
“Cap a Pie” builds on The Unique, but with a higher proportion of malt whisky in the blend, giving it more structure, more flavour, and a slightly richer profile without losing that signature Couvreur elegance.
Still matured in those humid Burgundy cellars, still driven by cask over distillation, just pushed a little further.
On the nose, it opens fresh but layered. Almond, vanilla and light floral notes lead, backed by white fruit and a gentle, slightly saline edge that gives it lift.
The palate brings more roundness. Soft grain sweetness rolls into pear, vanilla and light dried fruit, with a subtle sherry influence adding depth without taking over. It’s lively, slightly nervy, but still very drinkable.
There’s a nice balance here, the malt gives it body, the grain keeps it easy, and the cask ties it together.
The finish is clean with a touch more complexity than the entry level expressions. Light spice, soft oak and a lingering sweetness carry through, leaving a fresh, moreish edge.
This isn’t a big whisky.
But it’s not trying to be.
It’s about balance, texture and drinkability, with just enough depth to keep things interesting.
A great step up from The Unique. Still easy, just with a bit more going on.
