This is Couvreur at its most precise.
Alekse 2008 is a single cask release, distilled in 2008 and matured for around 15 years in a very old Oloroso sherry butt before being bottled in 2023. Just 702 bottles exist.
No blending. No adjustments. Just one cask, taken as it is.
And it shows.
On the nose, it opens refined and lifted. Floral notes, almond and subtle dried fruit sit alongside a delicate sherry influence, nothing heavy, nothing overdone. It’s elegant from the first pour.
The palate is where it comes alive. Fresh, spicy and energetic. Ginger, light oak, fruit and nutty richness roll through, but it never tips into heaviness. The sherry cask is there, but it’s controlled, adding structure rather than dominating.
There’s a clarity to it. You can feel the cask, but you can also feel the spirit.
The finish is long, clean and surprisingly light for a whisky of this age. Soft spice, anise and fresh oak taper off with precision rather than weight.
This isn’t a sherry bomb.
It’s a study in restraint.
A whisky that proves you don’t need intensity to create complexity, just the right cask, enough time, and the discipline to leave it alone.
A true single cask expression. Rare, elegant, and built for those who appreciate detail over volume.
