Grain whisky laid down more than three decades ago at the foot of Mt Fuji, hand-signed by Master Blender Jota Tanaka.
While samples last, the bottle ships with a 50ml sample of the same 30 Year Old, so you can taste it now and keep the signed bottle and its oak case sealed.

Hand-signed by Jota Tanaka
Master Blender, Fuji Gotemba Distillery
Tanaka signed both the bottle and its oak presentation case. He is only the second Master Blender in the distillery's history, and he hand-selected every barrel that went into this release.
The whisky
A blend of Canadian-style grain whiskies, each aged more than 30 years, with some components resting for as long as four decades. The spirit was batch distilled through kettle and column stills, a method that keeps far more weight and character than a standard continuous grain run.
Maturation took place in first and second fill American white oak bourbon barrels. Three decades in that wood have turned it rich, luscious and remarkably balanced, with the soft fruit of Fuji's house style still sitting right at the centre.
Tasting notes
- NoseNutty brown sugar syrup, ripe fresh fruit and dried fruit, warm polished oak.
- PalateSoft yet opulent, honeyed sweetness folding into bitter dark chocolate.
- FinishLong, with delicate wood spice, ripe and dried fruit, and mountain honey.
- CharacterConcentrated and mellow, the depth of great age without heavy oak.
The distillery
Kirin founded Fuji Gotemba in 1973, roughly 620 metres above sea level in Shizuoka Prefecture. Cool air and mountain fog keep maturation slow and gentle, and the water used is snowmelt filtered for decades through Mt Fuji's volcanic rock.
Unusually for Japan, Fuji Gotemba makes several distinct styles of grain whisky alongside its malt, which is what gives its blenders such range. Its single grains are the distillery's signature, and this 30 Year Old is the pinnacle of that work.
