The release
Part of the legendary Buffalo Trace Distillery Antique Collection, the 2025 release spent nearly two decades resting in Kentucky. And somehow, despite all that age, it still carries elegance.
Eagle Rare 17 sits in a unique lane inside BTAC. It is not about sheer power like George T. STAGG or William Larue Weller. Instead, this release leans into mature oak structure, polished leather, dark cherry and tobacco richness, delivering a profile that feels refined rather than aggressive.
Restraint at 18 years
The 2025 release opens with deep tobacco, worn leather and ripe cherry, before moving into layers of caramel sweetness, soft spice and lingering oak. There is density here, but also restraint, the kind of balance that only extended ageing and careful barrel selection can create.
After more than 18 years in barrel, nearly 89% of the original whiskey was lost to evaporation, leaving behind a concentrated and deeply expressive bourbon that continues to define ultra-aged American whiskey.
