Blackwood Distilling Co. was founded in 2020 by Guinness McFadden - a thoroughbred trainer who won the 2019 Kentucky Derby with Country House, the horse on every label.
Their whole thing is 'Toasted in Kentucky': taking well-aged bourbon and finishing it for eight weeks in brand-new, charred Kelvin Cooperage barrels that have been toasted using their own proprietary method.
Toasted 105 is the flagship - a minimum eight-year Kentucky bourbon at 52.5%.
What it delivers
This is where the toasting earns its keep.
Toasted oak, vanilla and caramel up front, with marshmallow, baking spice and a touch of brown sugar underneath. The extra finishing adds sweetness and depth without tipping into char.
