Wormtub bottles single casks from the handful of distilleries that still condense their spirit through worm tubs, the copper coils in vats of cold water that give a heavier, more robust spirit. Each one is bottled at natural strength.
The whisky
Balmenach is one of Speyside's quiet heavyweights, a distillery that still condenses its spirit through worm tubs. That old-fashioned approach gives a heavy, robust spirit, and generous ageing lets that weight unfold beautifully.
This single cask spent twenty-four years in an oloroso sherry butt before being bottled at full strength. Creamy, fruity and superbly characterful, with toffee popcorn, caramelised tropical fruit and elegant old oak.
