The whisky
Kilkerran 12 Year Old is the distillery's core expression and the benchmark for everything that followed. Lightly peated malt is matured in a mix of around 70% bourbon casks and 30% sherry casks, then bottled at 46% so the texture and oils stay intact.
It is the clearest introduction to the Campbeltown style there is: citrus and confectionery up front, that signature oily weight through the middle, and a thread of gentle smoke that never takes over.

The distillery
Glengyle first ran its stills in 1872 and fell silent in 1925, one of the many casualties as Campbeltown's whisky trade collapsed. In 2004 the Mitchell family, the independent owners behind neighbouring Springbank, brought it back to life, returning the town to three working distilleries.
The whisky carries the name Kilkerran, taken from Ceann Loch Chille Chiarain, the original Gaelic name for the settlement that became Campbeltown. Everything is bottled the traditional way: natural colour, non-chill filtered and never rushed.
Serving
Pour it neat first, then add a few drops of water to open up the citrus and the smoke. A natural partner for a side-by-side with the 8 Year Old Cask Strength.
