Jack Daniel's 10 Years Old Tennessee Whiskey Batch 5 700mL
Ten Lynchburg summers in the rickhouse, bottled at 97 proof.
Tennessee summers are brutal on a barrel. Most Jack Daniel's whiskey is pulled well before it has to sit through ten of them. This one stayed. Batch 5 is the fifth instalment of the longest-running age statement in the Jack Daniel Distillery lineup, drawn from the upper reaches of the rickhouse where the heat works hardest and the angels take the most.
It begins the way every Lynchburg whiskey begins, on a mash bill of 80% corn, 12% malted barley and 8% rye, then filters drop by drop through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal before the barrel ever sees it. A decade later, it comes out at 97 proof rather than the usual 80, because a whiskey that has earned this much oak deserves to be heard at full voice.
