Buffalo Trace Antique Collection · 2025 Release
Both ryes, one set
The Antique Collection releases two rye whiskeys a year and they could not be less alike. One has been in oak for eighteen years and comes out at 90 proof. The other is six years old and comes out at 129.8, uncut and unfiltered. Same distillery, same rye, opposite ends of what it can do.
This is the only way we are offering the pair together, and the Sazerac 18 is the reason it is a short run.
Bottle one
Sazerac 18 Year Old, 2025 Release
Distilled in the springs of 2006 and 2007, then left in Warehouses O, K and L for eighteen years and five months. Seventy-seven per cent of it evaporated before anyone came for what was left. Bottled at a restrained 90 proof, because after that long in oak it does not need the help.
Seasoned oak and bright rye spice up front, with a herbal lift and soft mature leather behind it. The palate builds slowly through layered spice, oak and an earthy richness, into a long finish of caraway seed, leather and dry oak. Elegance rather than force, which is rare in this collection.

Bottle two
Thomas H. Handy Sazerac, 2025 Release
The wild one of the collection, and the reason it is not just a museum. Distilled in the springs of 2018 and 2019 and bottled after six years and three months, completely uncut and unfiltered at 129.8 proof, out of Warehouses N, L, AA and DD.
Bold oak and rye spice come straight out of the glass, lifted by baked apple and vanilla underneath the intensity. The palate is thick and oily with charred oak and dark sweetness, and the finish runs long and warm. Despite the proof there is real energy and lift here, which is what separates Handy from the older bottles in the range.
| Volume | 750ml |
| Strength | 64.9%, 129.8 proof |
| Age at bottling | 6 years, 3 months |
| Filtration | None. Uncut, barrel proof |
| Distillery | Buffalo Trace, Frankfort, Kentucky |
Why buy them together
Neither of these tells you much on its own. Poured side by side they do, because every variable except time and proof is held still. Same distillery, same rye recipe, eighteen years against six, 90 proof against 129.8.
Pour the 18 first. It will read as restrained and refined. Pour the Handy after it and the same rye arrives with the volume turned all the way up. Then go back to the 18, and it will taste like a different whiskey to the one you started with.
Wayfarers members pay $1,800. The discount applies itself at checkout, so log into your account before you order or you will be charged the full $2,000. Members also get first access to every allocated release we bring into Australia, this one included.
Both of these are pours four and five in our Sazerac Rye vertical virtual tasting on Wednesday 23 September, alongside the standard Sazerac Rye, Full Proof and our own single barrel. If you want to taste before you commit to a bottle, that is the way.
Allocated to us in very small numbers and offered to Wayfarers members first.
