Whisky Wayfarers Single Barrel Selection
Eagle Rare Single Barrel – Chapter Three
One for the back bar
Our Chapter Three single barrel, selected exclusively for Whisky Wayfarers at 11 years and 3 months old, now offered as a standalone bottle.
Fifteen months past the age statement
Eagle Rare carries a ten year age statement, and that is the floor rather than the ceiling. This barrel was left until 11 years and 3 months, so it took another fifteen months of Kentucky summers before anyone came for it.
It is cut to 45%, the same strength the standard bottling wears, which is what makes the comparison worth making. Same distillery, same proof in the glass. The only variables are the extra time and the fact that this came out of one cask rather than many.
One barrel, not a marriage
Standard Eagle Rare is married from a number of barrels, blended so that this year's bottle tastes like last year's. That consistency is the whole point of it, and it is a large part of why the bottling has the reputation it does.
A single barrel is not smoothed against anything. Whatever that one cask turned out is what ends up in the bottle, for better and for worse, and when it is gone there is no second run to go back to.
