Bomberger’s isn’t about age statements or proof for the sake of it.
It’s about wood.
The 2025 release leans heavily into Michter’s approach to oak — specifically Chinquapin oak — with barrels seasoned anywhere from 18 months through to five years before being toasted and charred to spec.
That variation in wood treatment isn’t just technical — it’s what builds the profile.
What it delivers
This is a bourbon with weight, but also movement.
You get layers straight away — fruit, caramel, chocolate and spice — but they don’t stack on top of each other, they move through the palate.
There’s sweetness, but it’s balanced. Spice, but not aggressive. A bit of savoury edge sitting underneath it all that keeps it from becoming predictable.
Think:
- dark fruit and berries
- salted caramel and roasted nuts
- chocolate and baking spice
All tied together with a long, structured finish.
Why it matters
Bomberger’s sits in a very specific place in the Michter’s range:
- Part of the Legacy Series (not core range)
- Released annually, but never identical
- Driven by oak program, not age statement
It’s also the heavier side of that Legacy pairing — where Shenk’s leans lighter and more refined, Bomberger’s is the one with presence.
This is not a quiet bourbon.
It’s layered, deliberate, and built to show what oak can actually do when it’s handled properly.
