This is Couvreur in balance mode.
Special Vatting is built from a blend of three single malts, each over a decade old, matured across different sherry casks including Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso and Amontillado.
Each component plays a role. One brings richness and age, another adds freshness and a lightly peated, almost coastal edge, and the third ties it all together with finesse and structure.
This isn’t a one-note whisky. It’s constructed.
On the nose, it opens deep and expressive. Sherry-soaked fruit, leather and fine tobacco lead, backed by spice and old oak. There’s a quiet smokiness sitting underneath, not dominant, just adding depth.
The palate is full and silky. Dried fruit, caramel and nutty richness roll through first, followed by spice and a gentle peat influence that lifts rather than overwhelms. It’s rich, but balanced, nothing gets too heavy.
That interplay is what defines it, sherry depth meets freshness and subtle smoke.
The finish is long and composed. Oak, spice and lingering sweetness carry through, with a slightly dry, elegant edge that keeps everything in check.
This isn’t experimental Couvreur.
It’s classic Couvreur.
A whisky built on blending, cask and patience, where everything sits exactly where it should.
A proper after-dinner dram. Rich, structured, and quietly complex.
