This is Jura with a twist.

After 14 years in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, this one is finished in American rye whiskey casks, bringing a different kind of spice to the usual Jura profile. It’s still easy going, still balanced, just with a bit more edge through the mid-palate.

On the nose, it opens bright and aromatic. Citrus peel, vanilla and mango lead, backed by mint, floral notes and a soft nuttiness that gives it a lifted feel.

The palate brings that rye influence through nicely. Toffee apple, honey and vanilla roll in first, followed by cinnamon, spice and a gentle peppery warmth. There’s a slightly herbal edge here that separates it from the rest of the Jura range.

The finish is warm and lingering. Maple sweetness, soft oak and spice carry through, with a nutty, slightly dry edge that keeps it balanced and easy to revisit.

This isn’t a heavy whisky, but it’s not as straightforward as the 10 or 12 either.

It sits right in that middle ground, approachable, but with a bit more personality thanks to the rye cask finish.

A great step-up for those who want something familiar, but with a touch more spice and character.
